WHY EVERY MUA/ STYLIST SHOULD ASK FOR A DEPOSIT
Think about it. You’re booking your dream vacation and browsing the web for hotels. You finally find the right one and you pay a deposit without even thinking about it. Why is the beauty industry any different? More importantly, why is this lack of stability so common? From makeup artists to hairstylists, it is important to be able to assert ourselves and be taken seriously in our profession. One of the simplest ways of doing this is through requiring deposits. Requiring a deposit from your clients will only help your business in the long run, and secure you as a more established place of business. Here are some reasons why you need to incorporate deposits into your service.
Security
Like many people, you want to know that the appointments you book are final. There’s nothing worse than planning your day around an appointment that cancels on you last minute, or doesn’t show up. When deposits are required from clients, they are more likely to show up because they are already invested in your service. Something many clients don’t understand is how valuable our time is. Agreeing to book one person can sometimes mean having to turn away other potential clients. In the event that a client cancels their appointment, your deposit will compensate you for the time you’ve lost.
Building trust
Deposits builds trust with clients. From the perspective of the client, it can sometimes be difficult to find the right hairstylist or makeup artist that knows exactly how to meet their needs. Although many times deposits act a symbol of security for us, they can also give the same sense of relief to the clients as well. Knowing that the booking for their ‘big day’ is set, gives them a sigh of relief. Some clients may even prefer booking a trial before the day of their event. This will require more of your time and is another reason to request a deposit.
Asserting yourself as a beauty pro
Learning how to assert yourself as a business person should be one of the first things everyone learns coming into the industry. For new stylists, knowing your worth is important and not letting people take advantage of you is crucial. Requiring deposits are a great way to let people know that you take your business seriously as well as your prices. It also gives potential clients a more professional perspective on your business as a whole.
One of the great things about the BeautyNBrushes app launching this summer is that it will not only offer women of colour a one stop shop for beauty services, but each service will require a mandatory deposit. No matter your profession, this feature is one way we want to make you feel as comfortable as possible when booking clients. You will know that your bookings are secure through the system we have built for you.
